Michelle Munn

Executive Director

Michelle Munn is the Executive Director of New Hope Shelter, where she has served for the past 6.5 years. With over 20 years of experience in human services, Michelle is deeply committed to advocating for individuals and families facing life’s toughest challenges. Michelle holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Baker College. Her professional journey includes 12 years supporting adults with developmental disabilities and at-risk youth, 2 years as a Self-Sufficiency Case Manager working with vulnerable families, a brief time serving Veterans, and 6.5 years dedicated to the homeless population.
What drives Michelle is a passion for helping those who struggle to advocate for themselves—especially those whose trauma is greater than her own. She knows what it feels like to be out of control and is determined to create a different experience for others, offering hope, stability, and a path forward.
Michelle continues to learn and grow as a leader with a vision for New Hope Shelter to expand its impact—sheltering the unhoused in Wexford and Missaukee Counties while developing more resources and support for those we serve. Her goal is simple yet powerful: to ensure that every person who walks through our doors is met with love, grace, and dignity—just as Jesus did when He walked this earth. We are the hands and feet of Jesus—this is our commission.

Anne Byard

Deputy director

Anne has been happily married for 36 years, raised 8 children, and fostered 33 children. She has worked in the casemanagement field since 2017 and at New Hope since 2024.  Anne's story is she was made aware of young adults who were homeless and couch surfing in her community.  She opened her home to youth and walked alongside of their journey of becoming adults. She was able to help them through the trauma of homelessness, and was privileged to see them work on to success. During this journey lots was learned about homelessness and the trauma endured for those who are experiencing homelessness. All along the way God had a plan in making Anne's path to New Hope as the Lord brought about opportunities to serve Him by serving those whom He loved and cared for very much who were experiencing homelessness. The thing Anne loves most about New Hope is that everyone who walks through the doors are treated with kindness, dignity, and respect just as Jesus would have done. Anne says,  "It is such a joy to know that I had the privilege to encourage them to keep moving forward and to watch someone dig deep and work hard and make their way out of homelessness and on to success.
